Suresnes enjoys an enviable location on the banks of the Seine facing the Bois de Boulogne. It spreads across the Mont-Valérien hillside, at 162 metres the highest point in the Paris region. Today, Suresnes has 45,039 inhabitants.

A town at the heart of transport networks

Suresnes is situated at the gates of Paris, 2 minutes from the La Défense business district, so it enjoys transport infrastructures that place it at the heart of business activity in the Ile de France region. It is very easy to access by road and by several forms of public transport:  tramway, train and bus.

The town is divided into 6 districts:
- Centre-ville
- Plateau Ouest
- République
- Carnot-Gambetta
- Liberté
- Cité-Jardins

They each have their own identities and are forceful in making proposals to the Town Council by means of the District Consultative Committees on which they are represented.

Suresnes is enriched by its diversity, from the brick blocks of the Cité-Jardins, to the cottages of the Village Anglais on the banks of the Seine, from the rural looking slopes of the Pas-Saint-Maurice to the town centre. This variety is also evident in its housing, with blocks of flats side-by-side with individual houses and a 38% ratio of social housing harmoniously distributed throughout the town.

Parks and gardens

The different districts of Suresnes are studded with 42 hectares of parks and gardens.
In its concern for botanical diversity, the town has embellished its landscape with more than 7,107 trees (68 species) and numerous flowering plants. Suresnes is currently the proud possessor of the "Three flowers" accolade for an exceptional floral display and an overall planning policy that promotes an ideal living environment.

Rationalised town planning

One of the town's characteristics is the architectural variety that has established a reasonable mix between blocks of flats and areas of individual dwellings. Suresnes fosters this special feature of mixed development in order to achieve its balance on a human scale.
The development projects in progress make a point of preserving this diversity. For example, the Carnot-Gambetta eco-model district, currently under development, has been awarded the IDEES 92 trophy by the department for the ground breaking way in which it implements the principles of sustainable development. 

An active town

A dense and diverse economic fabric

Suresnes is the home of a plethora of very dynamic small businesses as well as multinational companies. 1,358 businesses and 800 shopkeepers and trades people are based within the town's boundaries. The town is seen as a crucial player in the Hauts-de-Seine competitive clusters in "software engineering and complex systems", "health and life sciences" and "digital imaging and lifestyle".

27,000 people work in Suresnes, giving it one of the lowest unemployment rates in the Île de-France.

Shopping on the doorstep

There are more than 200 shops in a semi-pedestrianised environment in the town centre. Its many cafés and restaurants, with their terraces giving onto the street, are essential contributors to the centre's attractiveness and liveliness. On market days (Wednesday and Saturday) the heart of the town is completely pedestrianised.

The Vaillant Jaurès area is also a very well patronised and dynamic shopping centre. A loyal and growing clientele, drawn by its commercial attractions, wends it way from the rue Édouard Vaillant to the Caron / Jaurès covered market (Thursday and Sunday), passing in front of the displays of the shops on the rue Jean-Jaurès (small and medium sized shops on the ground floors of buildings).

Facilities for everyone 

For more than 20 years, the town of Suresnes has pursued a continuous and proactive policy in favour of families in order to enable them to better combine professional and family life. 15 crèches, 3 nursery schools and 2 stop-over centres provide places for more than 700 young children. Then, young people in Suresnes can complete their whole school careers in its 10 infant schools, 9 junior schools, 4 secondary schools and 2 upper secondary schools (general and professional). A new school and a 700 bed crèche are currently being built and will further strengthen the town's educational provision.

Old people are not forgotten either. Suresnes' 3 sheltered housing developments, 3 nursing homes and 6 day centres offer all of its residents the best possible living conditions and ensure that each person has a place in the town's civic life.

Suresnes is home to more than sixty dynamic and lively sports clubs, bringing together more than 9,300 registered practitioners. It has many sporting infrastructures spread throughout the town: 3 stadiums, 3 gymnasiums, 2 sports centres, 2 sites devoted to tennis, pitches for boules, a swimming pool…

A creative town

The Suresnes Jean Vilar Theatre

The Jean Vilar Theatre in Suresnes is a major cultural platform in the Paris region. The "Suresnes Cités Danse" contemporary dance and hip hop festival, which takes place in January each year, is now recognised as a major event on the French choreographic scene and famous artists contribute to the success of this event.

The Suresnes Media Resources Centre 

Everyone has access to the media resources centre, a focal point of the town's cultural and social life. When it was being built, the town's elected representatives and administrators wanted to make it into a living space, a resource centre open to everyone. The centre now houses more than 130,000 documents.

The music, dance and drama conservatory and the art school are also dynamic institutions that provide access to culture for people from all walks of life. 

The “Le Capitole” cinema

Le Capitole’s 4 high-tech projection rooms mean it can offer a programme of both general entertainment and art films along with themed evenings.

Suresnes' identity is bound up with its history. From its past in industry and agriculture, but also as a centre for leisure, that forms its roots, through to its economic growth based on cutting edge technologies, Suresnes has always known how to change with the times whilst preserving the diversity that is its wealth.
